Passenger Airbag Circuit Fault

The passenger airbag system is not functioning correctly, which could mean the airbag won't deploy if needed or may deploy unexpectedly.

The airbag control module detects an abnormal voltage level in the passenger airbag circuit, typically below 1 volt or above 5 volts when it should be stable at around 2.5 volts during normal operation.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 1Inspect the wiring and connectors for the passenger airbag. Look for any visible damage, corrosion, or disconnection. If found, repair/replace as necessary.
2. 2Check the voltage at the airbag connector. It should be around 2.5 volts. If voltage is below 1 volt or above 5 volts, there may be a short or open in the circuit.
3. 3Use a scan tool to check for any additional airbag fault codes that might prove helpful in diagnosing the issue.
4. 4If everything checks out, consider replacing the passenger airbag sensor/module.

• Damaged or corroded wiring in the passenger airbag circuit
• Faulty airbag sensor or module
• Loose or poor connection at the airbag harness
• An active code or fault in another airbag system component
