High Beam Indicator Circuit Short to Ground

The computer is trying to see if the high beam indicator light on the dashboard should be lit, but it's seeing a fault because there's a short circuit somewhere in the wiring.

The Body Control Module (BCM) expects a certain signal from the high beam circuit, typically around 12 volts when the high beams are activated and around 0 volts when they're off. If the BCM sees a continuous low voltage when it should see high, it triggers this code.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 1Perform a visual inspection of the wiring and connectors related to the high beam circuit for any damage or shorts.
2. 2Use a multimeter to check the voltage at the high beam switch with the high beams activated; expect to see around 12V.
3. 3Check the ground connection for the high beam indicator; it should have continuity to chassis ground with no resistance.
4. 4Inspect the actual high beam indicator bulb; if it's damaged or has a short, it needs replacing.
