Driver's Door Switch Input Failure

The driver's door switch, which detects if the door is open or closed, is sending the wrong signal to the vehicle's computer, causing issues with features like the dome light or door locks.

The vehicle's module expects a voltage of around 0-5 volts from the door switch, where 0 volts means the door is closed and 5 volts means the door is open.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Inspect the driver's door switch for physical damage or foreign objects causing it to stick. Decision: If damaged, replace switch.
2. 22. Check the wiring harness leading to the door switch for any signs of wear or fraying. Decision: If damaged, repair or replace wiring as necessary.
3. 33. With a multimeter, test the voltage at the door switch connector; should be 0 volts when the door is closed and 5 volts when open. Decision: If your readings differ, replace the door switch.
4. 44. Inspect the connectors for corrosion or loose connections. Decision: If corroded, clean or replace the connectors as needed.
5. 55. If all the above test okay, consider checking the body control module (BCM) for faults or failures.
