Battery Voltage Low

The vehicle computer is seeing that the battery voltage is too low, which can lead to system malfunctions and starting issues.

The engine control module (ECM) monitors the battery voltage and flags this code when it detects a voltage below 9 volts for more than 5 seconds during operation.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Check battery voltage at rest; it should be above 12.6 volts. If below, charge or replace battery. Decision point: If the battery is good, proceed to step 2. If battery is bad, replace it.
2. 22. With the engine running, measure voltage across the battery terminals; it should read between 13.5 to 14.7 volts. If not, suspect a faulty alternator. Decision point: If alternator is producing proper voltage, proceed to step 3.
3. 33. Inspect battery terminals and cables for corrosion or loose connections. Clean and tighten as necessary. Decision point: If connections are good and clean, proceed to step 4.
4. 44. Check for any aftermarket electronics that may be drawing excessive current. Disconnect and see if the code returns.
