Digital Potentiometer Signal Error

The digital potentiometer in your vehicle is supposed to send a specific resistance reading to the computer depending on the position of various controls, but it's not behaving correctly.

The computer expects a resistance value between 0 and 5 ohms, depending on the position of the potentiometer, but it’s reading a value outside this range.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Visually inspect the wiring and connectors leading to the digital potentiometer for damage or corrosion. Decision Point: Are there any visible issues? If yes, repair or replace the damaged components. If no, proceed to step 2.
2. 22. Measure the resistance across the potentiometer terminals. Expected Value: Should read between 0-5 ohms. Decision Point: Is the resistance within the expected range? If yes, proceed to step 3. If no, replace the potentiometer.
3. 33. Check the voltage at the input pin of the control module while adjusting the potentiometer. Expected Value: Should vary between 0-5 volts. Decision Point: Is the voltage correct? If yes, control module may be faulty; replace it. If no, investigate wiring issues further.
