Service Brake Switch Circuit Low

The brake switch that tells the computer if you're pressing the brake pedal is sending a voltage signal below the expected level, meaning the computer may think the brake isn't applied when it is.

The brake switch normally sends around 0.5 to 4.5 volts when the brake pedal is pressed. If the voltage drops below 0.5 volts, the computer logs this fault code.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Inspect the brake switch wiring and connector for damage or corrosion. Repair as needed. If the wiring looks good, proceed to step 2.
2. 22. Check the brake switch operation: with the key on, use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the brake switch. Verify it’s between 0.5V and 4.5V when the pedal is pressed. If it’s low, replace the brake switch and recheck.
3. 33. If the brake switch is good but still getting a low voltage, check for continuity and shorts in the wiring between the switch and the ECU. Repair or replace as necessary.
