Fuel Pressure - Low Pressure

The engine's fuel system isn't providing enough pressure to keep the engine running properly, meaning there's not enough fuel feeding the injectors. This can happen if the fuel pump isn't working right or if there's a blockage.

The engine control unit (ECU) monitors the fuel rail pressure sensor input. If the pressure falls below a threshold (usually lower than 300 kPa or 43.5 psi), the ECU triggers a fault code to indicate low fuel pressure.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Check fuel level in the tank to ensure it is adequate.
2. 22. Inspect wiring and connectors to the fuel pressure sensor for damage or corrosion; repair as needed.
3. 33. Using a fuel pressure gauge, connect it to the fuel rail and measure the pressure; expect between 300-500 kPa (43.5-72.5 psi).
4. 44. If pressure is low, check the fuel pump operation by listening for it when the key is turned to the 'on' position.
5. 55. If the pump is running, check the fuel filter for clogs; replace if dirty.
6. 66. If filter is clear and pump works, check the fuel pressure regulator for correct operation; replace if faulty.
