Engine Oil Pressure

The system is detecting that the oil pressure in the engine is too low, which can mean that there isn't enough oil circulating properly to keep the engine lubricated. This is bad because it can cause engine wear.

The engine control module (ECM) measures oil pressure through a sensor that typically operates between 0.5 to 4.5 volts depending on the pressure. If the voltage falls below a specific threshold, it triggers this code.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 1Check the engine oil level; add oil if low. Is the level okay? Yes: go to step 2; No: top off oil and verify if the warning goes away.
2. 2Inspect the oil pressure sensor connector for damage or corrosion. Is it good? Yes: go to step 3; No: repair/replace connector and retest.
3. 3Use a mechanical oil pressure gauge to check actual oil pressure. Is it within expected range? Yes: replace the oil pressure sensor; No: continue to step 4.
4. 4Check the oil pump operation; it may be faulty. Does the pump work? Yes: continue to step 5; No: replace the oil pump.
5. 5Check for restrictions in the oil passages or filter. Are they clear? Yes: consider internal engine damage; No: clean/replace any restrictions.
