Engine Oil Pressure Low

The oil pressure in the engine is too low, which can cause lubrication problems and damage. This often happens if the oil level is low or there's a fault in the oil pump.

The control unit is monitoring the oil pressure sensor input. A low voltage reading (typically below 5 volts) indicates low oil pressure, which triggers this code.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Check the engine oil level using the dipstick. Ensure it’s within the acceptable range.
2. 22. If oil level is low, add the correct type and amount of oil. Check for leaks to prevent recurrence. Decision: If level was low and adding oil resolves the issue, monitor for a return of the code.
3. 33. Inspect the oil pressure sensor and wires for damage or corrosion. Repair or replace as necessary. Decision: If wiring is damaged, fix it, clear the code, and retest.
4. 44. If the sensor and wiring are good, check the oil pressure using a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Expect readings between 20-80 psi. Decision: If the pressure is low, suspect oil pump failure or engine lubrication issues.
5. 55. If mechanical readings are within spec, replace the oil pressure sensor as it may be faulty.
